Kellen and the Pro Motorsports team competed in an early season four-some of events as the 2015 racing season kicked off with the IMCA West Coast Nationals.
Four events at three California tracks were held over New Year's weekend, which saw Kellen run in the top five on all four nights.
Thursday night, the first event of the New Year was held at Antioch Speedway in Antioch, CA and Kellen raced to a heat race victory and then stormed from the third row to take the lead mid-race and hold off a multitude of caution periods to win his first race of 2015.
Friday night, Kellen was already locked into the feature event after his victory the previous night, so after redrawing the third row again, Kellen raced to the front as he did the night before and lead much of the main event, only to have the lead stolen from him on a restart after battling brake problems throughout the main event. Kellen was able to hold on for third at the checkered.
Saturday night, the West Coast Nationals made it's visit to the Merced Speedway in Merced, CA and Kellen was up to speed right away again winning his heat race and redrawing the fourth row. It didn't take long for Kellen to race from seventh to third, but lapped traffic hampered his run forward for several laps allowing the leaders to get away. Once Kellen cleared the slower cars, he rapidly ran down the top two, slipping into second with two laps to go and recording a runner up finish.
The final night of the West Coast Nationals was Sunday at the Chowchilla Speedway in Chowchilla, CA and again Kellen had one of the fastest cars in the pits. After another heat race win, Kellen again was forced to start in the fourth row, but again quickly made strides toward the front and after an early race caution he restarted in 4th with his eyes on the leaders. Just after the green was displayed, Kellen broke an upper control arm, ending his night and his weekend.
Overall, the West Coast Nationals was great for the #83 team as they recorded a 1st, a 2nd, a 3rd and were in the hunt to win each of the four nights they unloaded.
